How to Activate Office 2024 with a MAK Key (Step-by-Step)

Before you start

• A genuine Office 2024 Volume MAK key.
• A volume edition install of Office 2024 (LTSC or Volume), not a retail or Microsoft 365 click-to-run build.
• Administrator rights on the machine.

Office volume activation runs through a script called ospp.vbs, which sits in your Office install folder.

Step 1: Open the Office install folder

Open Command Prompt as administrator and switch to the Office folder:

cd C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16

If that path isn’t there, try C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office16. ospp.vbs lives in this folder. Office 2024 still uses the “Office16” folder name.

Step 2: Install the MAK key

cscript ospp.vbs /inpkey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

Replace the Xs with your key. You should see “Product key installation successful.”

Step 3: Activate Office

cscript ospp.vbs /act

A “Product activation successful” message means you’re done. Since this is MAK activation, the install is now activated for good. No check-ins, no renewals.

Step 4: Confirm the status

cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus

Look for LICENSE STATUS: —LICENSED— along with the last five characters of your key. That confirms Office 2024 is genuinely activated.

Doing it across several machines

Repeat steps 1 to 3 on each device with the same MAK key. Every activation drops the key’s count by one. When it runs low, request more activations or buy more volume.

If it doesn’t work

• ospp.vbs not found. You probably have a retail or click-to-run build, which doesn’t use MAK activation. Make sure you installed the Volume or LTSC edition.
• Wrong Office folder. Office 2024 uses Office16. Check both Program Files and Program Files (x86).
• Activation count used up. The key has hit its limit. Request more activations or buy more volume.
• Activation fails with no connection. Make sure the machine can reach Microsoft’s activation servers, or use phone activation for offline machines.
